Nice Commute

The weather has again turned nice and I've resumed ebike commuting. I don't ride in the wet weather for safety reasons (and it just isn't that fun). The system has passed through 2,000 miles and 150 charge cycles and is still running well, no failures aside from one flat tire, and it took a big sharp nail to cause that. The battery balance is still excellent despite one deep discharge due to the charger coming unplugged overnight and not completing the at-home charge cycle. I ended up pedaling a bit more than usual that morning. :)  The rear tire is significantly worn, perhaps 50% or more, but the front tire is only slightly worn.

I have made a few improvements including moving the regenerative braking control from a pushbutton to a brake lever which is much more convenient and ergonomic. The regen brake takes some getting used to since it presents a strong braking force but is on-off and stops braking below about 7 mph. But it is great for the downhills and charges the battery as well as not wearing the pads or heating the disc brakes.

Starting this Site

I've been working on my ebikes for a bit over a year and I have three in various stages of completion, plus one for my son. They are not hard to build, but I have learned a few things in the process.

I'm putting this site together to share some of my enthusiasm, motivation and knowledge. Perhaps at some point I'll sell some of the accessories I've made for my ebikes, but for now I'm just sharing some of my experiences.

Ride Safe!
